Agility Classes in

Fort Lauderdale

Get ready this year with our continuation of group agility classes starting soon! Come learn the exciting sport of dog agility! Our intro to agility class is just a teaser for what is a fast paced and active way to train and compete with your dog. For the more competitive teams we provide off leash time for you and your dog to go through our course during class. Teach your dog to gracefully leap over jumps & zoom through tunnels. Even if you don’t want to compete with your dog agility is a great way to bond and boost confidence.

All Dogs Welcome – Click to Learn More About CGC Prep Class (Canine Good Citizenship from the AKC)

Are all the dogs in class instructed together?

No, each dog is instructed by the trainer individually in a group class setting. At no time are all the dogs doing the same exercise. Each team will be given instructions based on the goals of the owner. All dogs are on leash and no greetings are allowed unless consented by all parties.

Is my dog too young to join?

A position statement on early socialization in puppies released in by the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior encourages veterinarians to recommend puppies be socialized before the vaccine series is complete.

The guidelines state puppies can start socialization classes as early as 7 to 8 weeks of age. In general, they should receive a minimum of one set of vaccines at least seven days prior to the first class as well as a first deworming.

Additionally, puppies should show no signs of illness during the classes and should be kept up-to-date on vaccines throughout the class.

While veterinarians are appropriately concerned about infectious disease in young puppies, the fact is that behavioral issues—not infectious diseases—are the number one cause of death for dogs under 3 years of age, according to the AVSAB. Veterinarians contribute to these behavioral issues when recommending pets be kept away from possible germs until their vaccine series is complete, the AVSAB stated.

“Puppies go through a sensitive period of socialization when they are uniquely prepared to benefit from exposure to social opportunities. From the time the owner adopts the puppy until 3 to 4 months of age, it is critical that the owner get the puppy out to meet other animals and people, and experience many different kinds of environments,” said AVSAB president, Dr. E. Kathryn Meyer.

Class Rules and General Tips:

1

Pack your dog’s favorite treats (think the higher the value, the more motivated they will be!) so that your dog will be more comfortable taking food they are used to.

2

Make sure your dog is food motivated to go learn new skills and build confidence while creating positive associations. This is the main technique we use to guide dog’s through the class when they are first learning it.

3

Slip leashes, flat collars, martingale collars and harnesses are the best equipment to have your dog during Agility Class. All other classes require your dog to be on the usual set up you regularly walk and train them on. Ask your trainer if you qualify to have a clicker and treat bag included with Pet Supermarket Classes as part of our promotions.

4

Have a treat pouch/bag for convenience- one that you like wearing during class and is secure.

5

Pack your dog’s favorite toy to use as a reward and a motivator.

6

If your dog is nervous with other people and or dogs or reactive then please wear a YELLOW shirt, have a yellow leash OR have your dog wear something yellow during class.

7

At NO Time can your dog be off leash without a trainer or instructor’s permission at any time. KEEP YOUR DOG ON LEASH IN CLASS.

8

Save questions not directly related to the exercise until at the end of each class.

N

This is a novice agility handlers’ course where you will take your dog to all new heights by teaching them to use various pieces of competition style agility equipment and urban agility.

N

As you progress, your dog will be more confident in you as their handler- which will lead to a stronger and more bonded relationship altogether.
