The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Test & Certification stands for Socialization, Training, Activity and Responsibility.
To receive certification the owner and puppy attend at least 6 classes by an AKC Approved CGC Evaluator (us!) The owner (you!) brings bags to classes for cleaning up after puppy and as well you have obtained some form of ID for puppy- collar tag, etc.
To pass the test the puppy must:
Be free of aggression toward people and other pups during the class, tolerate the collar or body harness of owner’s choice and be hugged or held by owner, allow a treat or a toy to be taken away by owner, allow (in any position) petting by a person other than the owner, allow owner to handle and do a brief exam of pup’s ears and feet, walk on a leash and follow owner in a straight line, walk by other people on a leash, sits and lays down on command (treats are ok!), come to owner from when name is called, and lastly stay on a leash with another person while owner walks 10 steps and returns.
Take your skills to the next level and get certified! This course will prepare you and your pet to take the AKC’s Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Test.
You book us as you want. There is no amount of sessions we require. Payment is required at the end of every session. We take all forms of payment. Cancelations are $40 if the session is missed, however if you give us 72 hours heads up the fee is waived.
Puppy Basics is a training program primarily for dogs under 16 weeks old or puppies that haven’t had any formal training yet…
The primary goal is teaching you how to best communicate with your new puppy and to provide education and a unique curriculum to ensure your puppy’s success. We work one-on-one with our clients and their dogs to implement the basic commands of obedience and the common puppy challenges you will face together.
The Puppy Basic program comes with an educational Puppy Packets and Session Notes that has advice on how to raise a puppy like a trainer would.
In-home private sessions are $125 and private sessions at the facility are $100. For in-home sessions that are 20+ miles from Fort Lauderdale, we require a small additional travel fee. The average program from start to graduation is about 6 sessions, but everyone and every puppy is different so the amount may vary.
Puppy Basics is a great program because it sets you and your dog up to train in any environment and to do Basic and Advanced Obedience on your own and only schedule for sessions as needed.
Once you bring your puppy home- we recommend starting immediately on crate training (recommended usually, but optional), potty training, preventing separation anxiety and focusing on socialization with people and dogs after they have had their first round of shots and being dewormed twice.
After 1-2 weeks of bonding with your new puppy we can start to work on Obedience: sit, down, walking on leash, come, stay and place. These will be an introduction and Generalization of the Commands.
